Introduction to Breakdance’s URL Replacement Tool
This documentation provides a detailed guide on using Breakdance’s built-in URL replacement tool, a crucial utility that comes into play after migrating a website from one URL to another. This tool is designed to automatically update all references from the old URL to the new one across your Breakdance design, pages, options, etc., ensuring consistency and functionality post-migration.
Locating the URL Replacement Tool
- Go to Breakdance > Settings in the WordPress administration panel.
- From there, navigate to the “Tools” tab. Here, you’ll find the URL replacement tool among other utilities.
Using the URL Replacement Tool
Preparation
Before proceeding, ensure you have the following:
- The old URL of the website. This is the URL where your site was previously hosted.
- The new URL of the website. This is the current URL where your site is now hosted.
Note: It’s always a good idea to have a recent backup of your site before making direct modifications to the site’s database.
Execution
Once you have the necessary URLs, you’re set to use the tool:
- In the URL replacement tool, you will find two input fields: one on the left for the old URL and one on the right for the new URL.
- Enter the old URL in the left field.
- Enter the new URL in the right field.
- After ensuring that the URLs are correct, click the “Replace URL” button.
- The tool will execute and replace references of the old URL with the new one in your database.
- Upon completion, it will display a message indicating the number of rows affected. This message lets you know how many instances of the old URL were found and updated.
Post-Execution
After the process, it’s advisable to:
- Review your website to ensure that all references have been updated.
- Check the functionality of links and media to confirm they are pointing to the correct destination.
Additional Notes
Please note that the “rows affected” message is crucial: if it shows “zero rows affected,” this indicates that no instances of the old URL were found in your Breakdance content, possibly because there was no migration, or the old URL was never used. Always double-check the URLs entered to avoid confusion or unintended outcomes.
