Alternate and Static Items

Introduction to Alternate and Static Items

This documentation explores how to use static and alternate items within a Post Loop Builder element to enhance the design of a site by adding alternate layouts, advertisements, notifications, promotions, or other static content within your list of posts.

To begin, ensure a Post Loop Builder element is added to Breakdance and the query has been set up accordingly. In this example, we’re using a post type called itineraries, ordering them by the post title, and setting the posts per page to 12.

It is also best to have the Global Blocks used in the Alternate and Static items ready for use.

Implementing Alternate and Static Items

Adding Alternate Items

Alternate items are best for displaying posts within the query in a different format from the standard posts.

  1. Click the Advanced button under the Repeated Block control options.
  2. Click the “add item” button in the alternate section.
  3. Choose your Global Block and the position.
  4. You can also choose to repeat the Alternate item and the frequency at which it repeats after the initial position.

Configuring Static Items

Static items are ideal for integrating ads, promos, or notices within the post list that are static designs and do not contain dynamic data.

  1. Click the Advanced button under the Repeated Block control options.
  2. Click the “add item” button in the static section.
  3. Choose your Global Block and the position.
  4. You can also choose to repeat the Static item and the frequency at which it repeats after the initial position.

Customizing Item Frequency and Position

Both Alternate and Static items offer flexibility in terms of positioning and frequency. For example, you can set an Alternate item to appear at the fourth position and every second post after that. Similarly, Static items can be positioned and repeated based on your specific needs, allowing for a dynamic and engaging layout for your viewers.

Additional Notes

Utilizing static and alternate items within your post loops offers a powerful way to diversify your content presentation. Whether highlighting specific posts with alternate layouts or integrating non-dynamic content like ads and notices, these features enable a more engaging and customized browsing experience for your users.
