Global Blocks

Global Blocks are saved designs you can reuse across pages, templates, headers, footers, and loops. Editing a block updates every placement that references it. Manage them under Breakdance > Global Blocks in your WordPress dashboard.

Managing Global Blocks

Create a Global Block

  1. Go to Breakdance > Global Blocks and click Add Global Block.
  2. Enter a Title and create the block. The title identifies it in the dashboard and block selectors; it does not appear in the design.
  3. Hover over its row and click Edit in Breakdance to build its layout.

Save Existing Elements as a Global Block

  1. In the builder, right-click the element you want to reuse and choose Save as Global Block. Its children are included.
  2. Name the block and click Save. The original placement becomes a reference to the new block.
  3. Save the page.

Editing a Global Block

From Breakdance > Global Blocks, hover over the block and click Edit in Breakdance. Add and style elements as you would on a page, then Save. Changes apply wherever that block is used.

Preview Size

In the block's own editor, click Preview Size in the top bar to open Constrain Preview Size:

  • Dimensions — Set the preview size.
  • Background Color — Change the preview background.
  • Vertically Center — Center the block vertically in the preview.

These settings affect only the editor canvas. The preview content chooser lets you preview dynamic fields with sample content without fixing the block's live placements to that item.

Inline Editing

Click Edit Global Block or double-click a placed block to edit it in context. When finished, click Stop Editing or double-click outside it.

Leaving inline editing saves the shared block, even without saving the surrounding page. Every placement receives those changes. Duplicate the saved block first if you need an independent version.

Inline editing supports one level; open nested blocks in their own editor. Preview-size controls are available only in the block's own editor. Placements that do not support inline editing open that editor instead.

Displaying a Global Block

Global Block Element

Add a Global Block element to a page, template, header, or footer, select the saved block, and save the layout. See the Global Block element reference for its controls.

Loop Elements

Choose a Global Block as the repeated design in Post Loop Builder, Term Loop Builder, or Repeater Field. Inside the block, use dynamic data so each copy displays its own item’s content.

WordPress Block Editor

  1. Insert the Breakdance Global Blocks block in the WordPress block editor.
  2. Select your saved Global Block and save the post or page.

Shortcode

Copy the block's shortcode from the Shortcode column under Breakdance > Global Blocks and paste it into a shortcode-enabled area, such as a WordPress Shortcode block:

Code
[breakdance_block blockId=123]

Use the ID from your block's shortcode. Plain-text and code displays do not execute shortcodes.
