Dynamic Data Overview

Dynamic data connects your design to WordPress content, such as post titles, featured images, and custom fields.

Connecting the design to dynamic data

  1. Select an element and mouse over a control in the properties panel. If it supports dynamic data, the dynamic data icon appears beside its label.
  2. Click the icon to open Insert Dynamic Data.
  3. Find and click the field you want to use. The control shows it as a token, and the canvas displays its content.

Use the token's clear control to remove the connection.

The dialog only offers fields the control can use — a text control lists fields returning a
string, an image control lists images. Everything you can bind to, and what each field
returns, is in the Fields Reference.

Dynamic data and templates

In a template, dynamic data lets one layout display each item's own content. Connect elements to fields such as Post Title or Featured Image, then use the preview picker in the top bar to view the design with different items. See Single Templates.

Loops

A binding shows one item's data. To show many — the latest posts, a category's products,
the rows of a repeater field — you need a loop, which repeats a design once per result and
resolves the bindings inside it against each one.

Loop Repeats over
Post Loop Builder Posts, pages, or any custom post type
Term Loop Builder Terms of a taxonomy — categories, tags, custom taxonomies
Repeater Field The rows of an ACF Repeater or Meta Box cloneable group

Conditions

Dynamic data isn't only for filling a control — it's also available as a condition, so
what renders can depend on the data rather than just displaying it. Show a section only
when a custom field has a value, or apply a template only to posts whose field matches.
