Creating a Design Set

Turn a Breakdance website into a design set to reuse its designs on other websites or share them with other users. The source website hosts the designs, and other sites connect through its shareable URL.

To reuse sections between pages on the same website, use This Website in the library. You do not need to enable sharing for that workflow.

Enable the Design Set

  1. In WordPress admin on the source website, go to Breakdance > Settings and select Design Library.
  2. Check Turn This Website Into a Design Set and click Save Changes.
  3. Copy the Shareable URL. Follow Sharing and Selling Design Sets to connect another website, control access, or distribute the set.

Choose Which Designs Appear

Pages and posts with saved Breakdance designs can appear in the library, including drafts. Full-site page and post imports use published content. Create Design Library Parts for standalone sections you want to offer separately.

To exclude an individual design:

  1. Open the page, post, or Part in the WordPress editor.
  2. In its Design Library panel, check Hide in Design Set?.
  3. Save the item.

Organize Designs with Tags

In the same Design Library panel, enter Tags and save the item. Tags appear as folders in the library sidebar. An item with several tags can appear in several folders; items without tags remain browsable.

Spaces and commas separate tags. Use a single word or a hyphenated name such as Calls-to-Action for one folder. Entering Call To Action creates three separate tags.

Set Global Settings and Preset Dependencies

In Breakdance > Settings > Design Library, enable the options your designs need:

  • This Design Set Relies On Global Settings — Prompts users to import the source site's Global Settings when using its designs in Breakdance.
  • This Design Set Relies On Design Presets — Prompts users to import the source site's Design Presets.

Click Save Changes. These options tell recipients which shared styling the designs rely on. Recipients choose what to import through Import Settings; importing can replace their existing shared settings.

Enable Full-Site Installation

  1. In the source site's Design Library settings, check Full Site Import Enabled.
  2. In Thumbnail URL, enter the image URL for the set's library card. The displayed image size is 300 × 400 px.
  3. Click Save Changes.

Recipients who add your custom design set can then install it from Breakdance > Design Library. See Importing a Full Site for the content and settings it imports.

Host the Design Set

Keep the source website hosted and reachable while users browse or import its designs. Their WordPress servers must be able to connect to it; being able to open it in your own browser is not enough.

You can host each set on a separate WordPress installation or use a WordPress Multisite network, with one network site per design set.

For access restrictions and public copy buttons, see Password Protection and Enable Frontend Copying. Library visibility controls are covered in the settings reference.

Design Set Problems

  • The receiving site reports an invalid set: check that design-set enablement was saved, the complete URL and password are correct, and the receiving server can reach the source.
  • New designs are missing: save the source design and check Hide in Design Set?. Item lists are cached, so they can lag behind live previews.
  • A Part preview returns 404: go to Settings > Permalinks on the source site and save to refresh its permalink rules.
