Field Options

Dynamic field options select the source record and format the output. They affect one binding, not the underlying WordPress data.

Open the Options

  1. Select the element and click its bound field token.
  2. Adjust the field settings and expand Advanced where available.
  3. Preview normal, long, and missing values.

Format Text

  • Prepend — Text before the result.
  • Append — Text after it.
  • Limit Characters — Truncates text, removes HTML tags, and adds an ellipsis.
  • Fallback — Replacement for an empty value.

Fallback is selected before truncation; Prepend and Append are added afterward and do not count toward the limit. Labels can remain when the field is empty. Use a condition to hide the whole element.

Text 0 can count as empty. Test prices, counts, and measurements before adding fallbacks.

Set Media Fallbacks

Fallback Image supplies an image when no image URL exists. Fallback/Default Video supplies a replacement for supported empty video fields. Choose media suited to the element's dimensions.

Galleries and repeaters do not inherit single-image fallbacks; handle empty collections through their layout or loop settings.

Select a Source

Search Post and Post ID, where available, select a fixed post. Leave them unset to follow the viewed post or current loop item.

Other field-specific controls include Key, date Format, and provider output choices. See Fields Reference and the integration articles for those settings.

Field-Specific Options

Options above Advanced depend on the selected field. Post Date and Post Time distinguish Post Published from Post Modified; the initial type is Post Modified. Author Name and User Name select the name property. Post Title and Post Permalink can select a fixed record through Search Post or Post ID.

The field options popout also provides a control for copying the field's shortcode, allowing the same binding to be used in a compatible control or code output. Formatting remains per binding: changing one token does not change every use of that field.

PHP, galleries, and repeaters do not automatically receive every string-field formatting option. For exact controls, use Fields Reference.
